No New Posts ARAMECH RIDGE

A linear group of mountains rise up from the land, blotting out the sky with their imposing stature. Forests of rich plant life clamber up the steep slopes, the knotted ground providing a somewhat adequate footing for wandering animals and a place for plantlife to grow. The greenery extends midway up the ridges before it suddenly falls back, revealing the yellowy green grassy slopes. Rocks and boulders are scattered about the land, lichen encrusted and warm from basking in the sun all day. The sun itself shows its rays for only short amounts of time, usually mist rules with a foggy fist, sneaking in all the nooks and crannies of the ridge, creeping into the animals’ minds. Beyond the more lush part of the ridge, further north, there are enormous crag-like structures; the final climb before you reach the peaks. No animal could ever climb up here, and only the eagles dare take on the treacherous winds to reach the climax of the ridge. There are, however, hidden paths throughout Aramech Ridge, which provide a less hazardous route through the rocky territory if you are able to find and navigate yourself through these thin, winding trails. However, once one has reached the top, they are afforded the grandest view in Ellaria.

Taiga is the largest valley in Ellaria. It makes up over half of the Duegarian territory, and is a primary shelter for the northern residents. Like the desert in Valruva, this is one of the most difficult places to maintain life. Conifers dominate the northern region, and it is often freezing all year around, with temperatures as low as negative sixty-five degrees. During the harsh winters, the air is thin and icy, the sky is a neverending shade of gray, and snow falls almost continuously, hiding the valley beneath a mask of white. It is very humid and rainy in the summer. Birds and millions of insects inhabit the vale during this time to nest and feed. However, they are quick to migrate sometime in autumn to escape the deadly winter. Prey animals are scarce in the region due to the lack of food. Very few can eat conifer needles. There are still signs of life in the forest, however. Prints in the snow indicate that the valley is not entirely desolate. The only plantlife capable of thriving in such a place are lichens, mosses, and various species of evergreens. Very few deciduous foilage grows in Taiga Vale, but these limited plants are a primary food source for herbivores. During the winter, animals must dig beneath the snow to find what ever is left available to eat. The snow and freezing temperatures of Taiga Vale are not the only threats to ones survival. Predators are very common in the valley as well. During the summer, large herbivores and small mammals are abundant. But during the cold seasons, when these animals have migrated to warmer territories, the predators are forced to hunt whatever they can find.

No New Posts THIERE SPRINGS

Located in the northern rocky cliffs of the Baronese Mountains, the Thiere Springs are a natural wonder. Various pools of all shapes and sizes are hollowed out of the rocks that make up the pinnacle. The air is a mixture of cold and warmth as the condensation rises up from the boiling springs, filling the atmosphere with masses of water vapor. The pools range from a few inches, to several feet deep. The north and western regions are visible from atop the ridge, however, there are very few paths that lead to and from the springs. Traveling through the Baronese Mountains is the more difficult option, as it is a dangerous and very strenuous voyage, and one could easily lose their way in the midst of cliffs and ridges. The easier route is to take the path north of the springs. You would have to cross over from the Aghat Basin, maneuver midway through the small tundra between Aramech Ridge and Taiga Vale, and follow the path south into the Baronese Mountains.

No New Posts NOHJURA CORDILLERA

The Nohjura Cordillera is the longest chain of mountains in Ellaria. The snow-capped peaks fan out from the northern part of the continent, and in a sort of crescent-moon, curve southward to the Valen Coast. The mountains are indeed a spectacular sight. The northernmost ridges are buried in a heavy blanket of snow and dotted with an array of spruce, pine, and fir trees. Streams and narrow ravines twist and bend their way through the base of the mountains where melted snow trickles down towards the lake. On a clear, cold day, the snow glitters brightly beneath the suns rays. Avalanches are not common, but have been known to occur in parts of the region, particularly on those rare days when the climate becomes warmer than usual. Regardless, it is a difficult terrain to voyage, with its slippery slopes, and can be a deadly domain. Between Tilandyr and Angora, the mountains are less snowy around the middle and base of the ridges. However, further south, the timberline becomes dry and humid until it gradually merges into the radiant Valen Coast.

No New Posts LAKE GAFERAHN

Lake Gaferahn is the deepest, and largest body of water on the continent. As snow melts in the northern mountain range, rivers and small streams are formed. These tributaries weave in and out of the ridges of the Nohjura Cordillera and feed into the enormous lake below. Gaferahn is surrounded by an abundance of both wildlife and plantlife. Thick forests, small meadows, and rugged cliffs confine the lake to its northern locality. Being the primary source of water in Duegar, the lake is not entirely without dangers. During the Winter, when the climate is at its coldest, the edges of the lake often form into thin sheets of ice. Animals who travel to the lake to drink are forced to step onto the ice in order to reach the waters, or simply find a different way to obtain it. Predators native to the nearby valley, and the surrounding mountains are also common here, and not all of them are eager to share the lake with other animals.

No New Posts TILANDYR GROVE

Known as the oldest forest in all of Ellaria, the trees in Tilandyr Grove rise taller than any other. Their trunks are as thick as a horse is long and seem to rise for miles upward into the sky. Their branches don't grow below 100 feet, but their roots make the ground difficult to navigate and easy to trip over. In the early morning and late evening a mist crawls through the forest, covering the root ribbed ground and turning light into an eery glow. They say that once you become lost, you'll never be found.

Beautiful and full of life, the woodlands span several miles and play host to a wide variety of wildlife. Trees of various breeds seem to be placed for the express purpose to allow sunlight to filter through their leafy boughs and allow for easy navigation. Hedges and berry bushes sprout through-out, making it a favorite foraging spot for bears, and small mammals. Although birds fill the branches, it is truly the over-whelming population of squirrels that rule the forest. Occasionally the woods open into quaint glens or meadows, but the trees occupy the vast majority.

No New Posts DUBURAS PEAK

Duburas Peak is situated north of the Myrinae Woodlands and is the tallest peak in Ellaria. The steep pinnacle towers over the forest below and casts an eerie silhouette in certain light. The view from the summit is a spectacular one, but it would be almost suicidal for any wolf to attempt to reach the apex of the jagged, snow capped peak. These ridges are no place for anything other than the Eagles that nest on the jagged rises. Despite the harsh conditions of Duburas Peak, wildlife is still abundant in such a place. Deer, black bears, porcupines, and wild ponies are a few of the creatures lurking about the slopes of Duburas Peak. The base of the mountains are lush with perennial trees and plantlife, and the rocky caves that protrude into the mountainside provide plenty of shelter for both small and large inhabitants.

The bay is vast and majestic. During high tide, the waves tumble up the shoreline, almost reaching the thick trees and hedges that make up the edge of the beach. On a calm day, the waves are gentle and serene. However, they can become extremely dangerous in certain weather. High tide and rough winds often cause the white waves to rage up and down the coast, violently splashing the sandy beaches and rocky shores that make up the entire eastern strand. It is best to avoid Uhndo Bay during these times, as an animal could easily be swept away by the strong currents to an unfathomable watery death. On a more pleasant day, animals of all shapes and sizes are often spotted wandering along the coast, basking in the warm sunlight, sifting through the coral and seashells along the beach, or splashing in the low tides.

No New Posts LAKE NAVAERA

Navaera is beautiful. It is the only lake in the eastern region, but is large and magnificent in sight. The lake is almost entirely surrounded by woodlands, with a few clearings and meadows here and there. A small set of mountains are located south of the lake, which cast a large silhouette over the body of water at certain times of the day. Various streams and rivers flow from Lake Navaera, transferring spring water into the Uhndo Bay, the brackish Gyreith Marsh, and the Fugia jungle. Herds of white-tail deer are very common near the lake, as it is Aravae's primary source of freshwater. Because of this, predators are also often found lurking about in the surrounding woodlands and may pose a fatal threat to the unaware.

Perhaps not the most delightful place to visit, but the Marsh does have its own charms. The large amount of cattails and rushes hide the depth of water, as well as the wide variety of birds who make their nests among the foliage; the most notable of which is the local swan flock. Water lilies dot the surface and frogs rarely quiet their calls for more than a minute or two. While the shallows are safe and enjoyable to a point, the deeper water contains leeches and an abundance of fish. Occasionally an excited youth might spot a crocodile or alligator, but rarely does anyone actually believe it.

No matter the time of year, Angora Meadows is always beautiful and buzzing with life. Spring and Summer leave the lush grass hidden beneath lavender blooms while the air is heavily perfumed with its sweet smell. During Fall, the purple fades back to green, and then with Winter it sparkles with frost, or the occasional light blanket of snow. However, it does not lack its dangers. Predators find the open space an ideal hunting ground, making it unsavory to the young and the elderly. Bears and wild cats are not the only predators lurking just beyond the trees, however. This is a favorite hunting ground for wolves as well, and more often an enjoyable hangout for pups and young subordinates who are just learning how to survive.

Sereth Lake is snuggled in between piney woodlands on all sides, and small mountain ridges on the northeastern boundary. Various passages lead in and out of the territory from the mountains. Beyond them, lies the immense Tenanye Expanse. On the coastal edge of the land, the forest stretches all the way to the Aten Shores, where steep cliffs overlook the Ellarian sea. Meanwhile, large elk, bobcats, coyotes, and several other animals gather on the rocky shores of Lake Sereth to share its waters. Animals exhausted from their travels across the Aghat Basin and Tenanye Expanse often seek refruge near the lake, for there is an abudance of food, water, and shelter.

No New Posts ATEN SHORES

The western seaboard is a vast expanse of pristine beaches and steep, rocky walls. The cliffs tower high above the ocean below, where waves are thrust against the crag. The various beaches that are spread out along the shore are of magnificent framework with fair, blonde sand, and foilage ranging from lush palms in the south to evergreens in the north. Due to the immense cliffs that line the majority of the coast, Aten Shores can be a rather dangerous territory. One slip and a wolf would come face to face with a gruesome death on the jagged rocks below, and if somehow they manage to survive the drop, it would be nearly impossible to swim miles upon miles along the coast to the nearest beach. The view, however, is incredible from the rocky heights. Dolphins and other marine mammals are often seen splashing further out in the waters. On the beaches, passing wolves can relax in the cool ocean waves, but beware of jelly fish, for they can be treacherous little fiends.

No New Posts BARONESE MOUNTAINS

It is the largest mountain range in all of Ellaria, and possibly the most dangerous. The Baronese Mountains elevate an immense segment of central Ellaria and divide the four regions. In the northern part of the mountains, snow caps the low, jagged peaks while the southernmost region is thick with coniferous foliage. Apart from being the most immense ridge in Ellaria, it is much easier to travel across than the steeper, snowier Nohjura Cordillera in the Duegarian region. The mountains provide a place of residence for various wildlife, including rather malicious predators. Redwood and conifers are abundant in the Baronese Mountains. Their large roots protrude from the ridges, making the ground difficult for travelers to navigate. Fortunately, there are various clearings and trickling streams scattered about in the mountains. Just look out for bears fishing salmon from the creeks!

No New Posts LAKE SABEA

Beautiful and serene, the half-moon shaped lake is a lovely place to watch sunrises and meditate on the meaning of life. Ground water floods in from the northern based Thiere Springs, mixing with snow run off during the warming spring months. Rapids form in the lower regions of the stream and ends two hundred feet above the lake, where it waterfalls quite spectacularly into Sabea. During summer however, the waterfall usually dries to a thin trickle, and in winter it brings small chunks of ice. While the northern portion is walled in with rock and stone, and southern bit expands into soupy banks that are much more difficult to navigate. The very tip forms a reverse delta as several small streams run off and into the ocean several miles south of Aten Shores.

No New Posts TENANYE EXPANSE

The golden expanse stretches for miles upon miles across the open western plains, making up a rather large percentage of the rocky region. The terrain is made up primarily of golden grasses, low shrubs, and sparce trees. Several species of grazing mammals reside in the Tenanye Expanse. Very few streams flow through the terrain here, however, the prairie is conveniently situated between Lake Sereth and Lake Sabea. The western region is commonly warm with moderately low rainfall. Long periods of heat often brings about clashing thunderstorms and dangerous heat lightning. Wild horses are a common sight to see, as well as coyotes, mule deer, and jackrabbits.

The large plateau resides north of the Tenanya Expanse, in the midst of a small range of mountains. The basin is made up of rolling hills, grassy meadows, and low rocky ridges. Of all the territories in the western region, this is by far the most populated with deer and small prey, making this a favorite location for wolves native to the western region. Small waterholes are scattered about the land, and the flat shrubbery that is sprawled across the ground is rather lush. Other herbivores are also common amongst the basin ridges; bighorn sheep being the most common. Foxes, coyotes, and wild cats are just a few of the local competition.

No New Posts FUGIA RAINFOREST

Lush and bright, the rainforest rarely fails to look as though a rainbow may have exploded in it. Huge exotic flowers of every color can be found in every corner and the air is heavy with moisture even during the dry season. The flashy, garish birds are never quiet and the monkeys are a constant chattering nuisance. Strange trees that seem to defy the laws of physics grow with ease in the humid climate, with their branches thick enough to walk on and twisting through the jungle like elevated paths. Others are completely opposite with no limbs at all, and are simply massive trunks rising forever into the sky, choked by vines and matted with life. The bugs are ginormous and the predators range from muscular cats, to venomous snakes, and mad hogs who are willing to tear anything apart with their tusks. Only the small and fleet of foot are recommended to call the jungle their playground.

No New Posts VALEN COAST

Perhaps the most beautiful coastline that Ellaria posesses, Valen would make resort owners drool. A seemingly never ending beach of pristine white gold sands and warm turquiose waters awaits any who stumble far enough south east. Palm trees offer shade above the high tide line and natural reefs protect the beach from violent waves. The western edge of Valen Coast erodes into rocky terrain, and the ocean is relentless in its attack, throwing great temper tantrum sprays into the air with every incoming wave. Dolphins can often be seen playing in the distance, and brightly colored fish dart through the relatively safe waters. Watch out for the occasional jelly fish though. They can be vicious, especially to the weak at heart.

No New Posts LAKE ALEQUOR

The lake is quaintly nestled between the Baronese Mountains and the southern Nohjura Cordillera. It is partially enclosed by birch, maple, oak, and other hardwood trees. The southwestern edge of the lake is made up of rugged cliffs, courtesy of the Kovarus Mesa. Over the past decade, dangerous rocky paths have been worn down through the crag, providing the only quick route to the bottom of the highland. This trail is not without its hazards, though. During the wet season, rain, dust, and dirt combine a thick muddy surface on the slopes of the mesa, turning the passage into a terribly slick ravine. It would be a suicidal attempt to descend the bluff by this route during the rainy season, therefore animals are forced to take the longer, more strenuous route down and around the mesa to safely reach the lake. On average, the climate here is rather moist, and the rising humidity often clouds ones vision. It is thickest in the morning when you can barely see your own two feet in front of you, but gradually thins as the day wears on. On the southeastern contour of the lake, the land is sort of marsh-like as it merges with the marram and pampas grasses that make up the inland portion of the Valen Coast. A modest segment of the northeastern perimeter of the lake is made up of woods and hills. A ferocious rushing tributary flows in from Tilandyr Grove, feeding fresh water into the lake from the northern reservoir.

No New Posts ZAHRA CANYON

Carved by the hard working hands of a now deceased stream that once flowed from Lake Sabea to the Valen Coast, the canyon stretches across Ellaria like a scar. Tall granite cliffs tower a thousand feet over the gorge floor. Although the rock face is primarily sheer, there are many small overhangs and ledges that a nimble footed wolf can navigate to the bottom. Small caves and shallow niches mark the lower cliff walls. Brightly colored veins run through the granite walls and brilliant crystals glitter from their sockets. Although dangerous and difficult to navigate, many find these small indentations a draw for adventure.

No New Posts KOVARUS MESA

Looking every bit like a mountain whose lost its head, Kovarus is one of the best places to look out upon the beauty of Ellaria. The flat top itself is not particularly large, only a quarter mile by a half mile, but its base's diameter seems to spread out to cover as much land as possible. The south side descends rather steeply, almost vertically in places, while the north side is tiered with a giant's staircase, making ascent much easier. Nothing grows on the top, but small bushes and short trees grow on the north side, with fewer the higher you climb. Wind is a potent factor once you get to the top, with gusts rushing up 100mph at times. During storms, it's rare for the Mesa to not get struck with lightening, although sometimes it strikes whatever fool is up there at the time.

No New Posts SERAPH DESERT

Just by the edge of the Valruvian lands spreads an expanse of bone-dry desert that remains unexplored except by the most tenacious and adventurous wolves seeking the wonder of the Tarach Oasis within. The Seraph Desert stretches for miles of bright yellow sand and scorching sun, the only critters being snakes and lizards and the occasional rodent. The upsides are that there are next to no predators who dare to attempt to brave the harsh desert. The downsides are that very few plants exist there, either. The cacti are protected with their spines and the sparse spattering of weeds and thin grass provide no nutrition and do little to satiate the hunger induced by the elements. By night, Seraph Desert is freezing temperature, and the dexterous plants that can survive the heated daylight rarely survive the night. A wolf had little better chances of doing so, unless they happen upon the Tarach Oasis, which provides a very protected, cool, and lush shelter from the vicious desert outside.

No New Posts TARACH OASIS

The Tarach Oasis is the yin to the Seraph Desert's yang. From far away, it is simply a glimmer of green on the horizon, and most wolves, sick with exhaustion and starvation, would consider it a mirage. Upon nearing it, however, it becomes clear that this is the life essential to the desert creatures. It is here that all the animals who cannot survive days of sandstorms and heat reside. It starts with a few yards of sparse vegetation, growing more and more lush, and continuing on to tall, leafy trees that make the perfect place to lay in the shade. Leafy fern fronds burst from the damp ground, a bright green hue that attracts mule deer and burros. And in the center of it all rests a still, clear water pool. Its crystalline waters are untainted, and provide the water that a wolf suffering from dehydration would need. It is never disturbed except by the occasional wind from the sandstorms that rip through the desert. Around it, the plants and trees grow greener than any around them, providing for animals a nearly endless supply of plants and the occasional fruit.
